Lovi’s phone rings. She picks up.

“Yo! Free tonight? “asked Liam.

“Yeah, What’s up?” Lovi was quite unsure what the call might be about.

“Great, nothing major, but see if Dilan, Nilosha, Ayeshmantha and Liz too are free so we could all meet up at Ward7, around 6.30pm maybe?”

The bunch meets up ten minutes late than the planned time. They sat outside, relaxing by the infinity pool and spreading laughter. While nibbling on the appetizers, Liz popped a question.

“So Liam, what’s today about? you are barely the one who spends on other days…”

Everyone laughed.

“Seems like this is a rare opportunity so I guess all the desserts here are mine today. Gonna try all the sweet delicacies ,” added Dilan who has unlimited love for desserts.

“Dude, you have to go easy on desserts!” bugged Nilosha and Dilan did his signature eyeroll.

“Okay so here’s the story… I found 50,000 rupees on the pavement yesterday. Actually, in a small but very old purse. Got tired of finding the owners. Looked up everywhere and even went through the CCTV footage. Nothing found, so I thought, WELL here’s a chance to feed the fish,” Liam explained while capturing pictures of the lavishly laid dishes and drinks in front of them to post on their social media.

Noella waits at the pawning center to redeem her pawned gold bracelet. Her eyes look weary from working on additional late night shifts at the garment factory to earn a bit extra. She seemed impatient and kept crumpling her handkerchief.

She was relieved when she caught sight of the staff bringing her bracelet from the vault.

The crumpling stopped.

Noella missed it so much. It was gifted to her by her late husband. It had a blue stone. “The stone…in resemblance to your beautiful blue eyes,” Noella reminisced her husband’s words from the past as he gifted it to her. She was grateful to him for gifting it to her. Few years later, thanks to the bracelet, Noella was able to pay her daughter’s admission fee to an English course.

The staff handed over the redemption documents to be signed.

“Fifty thousand six hundred and twelve rupees.” She said to Noella.

Noella reached into the handbag to fetch her purse. Her forehead and palms began to sweat instantly, she felt dizzy.
